Suffolk Public Health & Communities Communications Advisory Group

A group about improving accessible information and communication

Thinklusive are working with the Public Health & Communities Team to improve the accessibility of local public health information.

The Communications Advisory Group advises the Public Health & Communities Team and helps make sure people receive information that is accessible to them. We meet every 2 months, usually online, on Zoom.

Information needs to be accessible in lots of different ways. Accessible information can include things like summaries, videos, audio files, easy-read, large print, colour contrast, and information available in different languages.

Since 2016, The NHS Accessible Information Standard sets out how providers and commissioners of NHS and publicly funded adult social care services should ensure disabled people and people with impairments or sensory loss:

  • can access and understand information about NHS and adult social care services
  • receive the communication support they need to use those services

Complying with the standard will also help organisations to meet their obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and other legislation.

We want to form a group that represents the diverse range of information and communication needs across our communities, so please join the group today if you are interested in improving accessibility of information within local public health services.

Anyone is welcome to join the group. We would like people working in roles across the health and care system, people with a lived experience and people representing voluntary and community sector organisations.

Please use the form below if you would like to join the Group

You can also request a project to come to the Advisory Group
